Easter 2007 — Eggs & Birds

Welcome to the 2007 Easter Calendar

This year’s calendar features an Easter egg hunt with a difference. The origin of giving Easter eggs is contested and its symbolism is obscure. It doesn’t seem to have been a widespread feature of popular culture until recently. The advent of advertising and the chocolate confectionary industry seems to have a lot to do with it. Today, Christmas is hardly over before supermarket shelves are being cleared of chocolate Advent calendars to be replaced by Easter eggs and hot-cross buns!

By contrast, our Easter calendar features twenty eggs of British birds – and none of them are made of chocolate. Click on each egg to find an idea or a fact that might intrigue or amuse you. Maybe one or two of them might suggest something that could be used in a Collective Worship. As in previous years, the Easter calendar celebrates new life and God’s love for all creation. Happy Easter!
