'Dondun', home of the Blemyahs' is
believed to be an attempt to describe the islands of Indonesia.

The 20th century saw a massive destruction of plant and animal species by humans. Between 50% and 70% of Indonesia's rain forests have already been destroyed. Friends of the Earth have just produced a report on a company called APRIL which operates the largest wood-pulp mill in the world. APRIL is accused of running out of plantation timber and ransacking the remnants of natural forest. This kind of behaviour is driven by our own insatiable desires here in Europe. Western banks financed the company and a British company built the pulp mill. The paper it produces is sold here, via eight British merchants.
